Questions students ask us

When is the IMAT 2027?

The official date has not been announced yet. In the 2026 cycle, registration on Universitaly ran from 26 August to 9 September 2026 and the test took place on 29 September 2026. We update our guide as soon as 2027 dates are published.

How is the IMAT scored?

The test has 60 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes. A correct answer earns 1.5 points, a wrong answer loses 0.4 points and a blank answer scores 0, so the maximum is 90.

Do I need to pre-enrol on Universitaly before the IMAT?

Non-EU applicants abroad complete two steps on Universitaly: a pre-enrolment application to one university, and the IMAT test registration. EU candidates only book the test. Always check the call for your chosen university.

Is the IMAT still used for English-taught medicine in Italy?

Yes. The IMAT was used for English-taught Medicine and Surgery in the 2026/27 cycle. The Italian-language courses use a different route, the filter semester.
