IMAT 2024 Ranking Analysis
In the last couple of years, the IMAT exam has changed a lot, especially since the Italian authorities started managing it in 2023. These changes have made some parts of the test easier, but that doesn’t mean the exam is less challenging overall—especially when it comes to math and physics.
What’s Changed in the IMAT?
If you’ve been preparing for the IMAT, you’ve probably noticed that questions in biology and chemistry have gotten a lot simpler. There are more of them now, and they’re not as tricky as they used to be. The logic section has also become easier, focusing more on basic probability and comprehension questions rather than tough problem-solving.
With these changes, many students can score high points in biology and chemistry alone. In fact, it’s possible to get a maximum of 57 points from just those sections! But here’s the thing: because so many students are doing well in these areas, it’s harder to stand out unless you do well in every part of the test—especially in math and physics, which haven’t gotten easier.
Why Math and Physics Matter More Now
Even though biology and chemistry are easier, math and physics are still the same as before—challenging. And now, they are more important than ever because these sections can make or break your score. Many students focus mostly on biology and chemistry, but if you do that and ignore math and physics, you might struggle to get a top score.
As more students get high scores in the easier sections, the competition to get into medical school is getting tougher. In the next few years, we could even see top scores reaching 75 to 80 points. That means if you want to succeed in the IMAT, you need to be good at all sections of the exam, not just the easier ones.
The New Approach: Balance Your Study
If you want to be fully prepared for the IMAT, you need to balance your study time across all subjects. Yes, biology and chemistry are important, but you can’t afford to skip math and physics anymore. These subjects will give you the edge you need to get a high score and secure your place in medical school.

Important Information – EU Scrolling
If you’ve received an offer to enroll in a university, here’s what you need to know:
-
- Fiscal Code Requirement: First, generate your Fiscal Code (codice fiscale) on UniversItaly. This is necessary for your online enrollment.
-
- Obtain the Official Code: After that, make sure to obtain your official Fiscal Code from the Agenzia Delle Entrate.
-
- Enrollment Deadline: It’s important to complete your registration before the enrollment deadline. Once this deadline passes, you won’t be able to use the online enrollment system, and any candidates who haven’t registered properly will be considered as having withdrawn their application.
EU IMAT Score
If you have achieved a score high enough to enter a university in the current round, you have the following options:
-
- Assigned Candidates: If you are ASSIGNED to your first-choice university, you must enroll within four business days following the university’s procedures.
-
- Booked Candidates: If you are BOOKED, you have the option to either enroll in your current university or wait by confirming your interest. This way, your place will not be taken away, and you may still “move up” the preference list if higher-ranked candidates give up their spots.
-
- Waiting or Not Ranking Candidates: If you are WAITING or NOT RANKING, you can only wait. If students with higher scores drop out, the ranking will scroll down to include you.
